Intro

I've been thinking a lot about Disneyland signs lately. I have over 1,500 photos of Disneyland signs (that I've identified thus far) taken by myself over the past fifteen years. I'm defining "signs" broadly, to include attraction marquees, refurbishment signage, attraction posters, trash cans and other painted elements of the Disneyland Resort that include text. Mostly these will be signs designed by the Sign Shop, but there may be a few non-Disney signs included. I don't plan to offer much commentary on the signs, but will instead transcribe them (for findability) and indicate where and when the photograph was taken.

I will post one sign a day and will be bouncing around the Resort. The postings will include the good, the bad and the ugly and the photographs will be of varying quality.

I realize most of my readers who would have such photographs also run their own blogs, but I welcome submissions. I may run a weekly index of newly posted blog photos that include signs (we'll see!).

I'm looking forward to seeing your collection of 1500 images (zoiks!). Do they hand paint signs at all these days? Something tells me that is becoming a lost art.

I'm always fascinated by the faux finishes the artists are able to create (giving fiberglass a nice wood grain appearance). Congrats on the new blog!

There are, of course, a number of signs created on computer, but some require hand painting and it is still a craft, as this August 2010 Disney Parks Blog posting shows.

I found out about the Splash Mountain Drop 5 sign from Bruce Gordon. You can see it from various rivercraft and TSI.

It's surprising that it was repainted at some point.
